C. T., a forty-one year-old wife and mother of four, and Y. M., a twenty-three year-old mother of one, were co-workers at an optical store in Fort Worth. In the early evening of November 27, 1990, C. T. and Y. M. were preparing to close the store and leave for the day. Y. M. noticed two men, appellant and David Hernandez, appellants cousin, walk past the front of the store. When they walked by a second time and started to enter the store, Y. M., who had already brought her purse to the front of the store, started toward the back of the store. As she began walking to the back of the store, appellant followed her and put a gun to her head.
